The state of Nevada requires handgun buyers to be at least 18 years old to buy a long gun and 21 years old to buy a handgun. No additional permits or licences are required for the purchase of handguns or long guns. The normal exemptions for minors over the age of 14 who are in possession of firearms also apply to those who participate in a hunting or firearms safety course, who use the weapon for target drills or for recreational shooting at a designated shooting range, who organize a competition, hunt or fall with a valid licence, who travel to and return from these events, who travel to and return from these events, or to their own place of residence with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian. In Nevada, it is legal to open handguns in vehicles. In order to conceal the carrying of a handgun in a vehicle, the carrier must hold a CCW licence. Unless prohibited by law from owning a firearm, people 18 years of age or older in Nevada can own any type of firearm.4 This includes all semi-automatic firearms, including those with a removable ammunition magazine and pistol grip.
